The Key Steps in an Effective Creative Design Process

Creative Design Process

The creative design process is never the same for everyone. Whether you’re crafting a new business logo or developing a website, having a streamlined creative design process will maximize productivity and efficiency. In this article, we’ll share with you a few steps that will improve the process and aid the transition between concept and competition.

Step 1: Collate all the information

Sometimes client briefs are incomplete and they don’t provide you with as much detail as you’d hope. For any designer, it’s imperative to obtain all the information you can about the client as a first step. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and it always helps to try and get on the same wavelength as the client.

For example, pay attention to:

  • The company name
  • Their products or services
  • Their  target market
  • Adjectives that best describe your brand attitude and positioning: expensive, modern, classic, affordable, dynamic, serious, fun etc.

Step 2: Create some designs

Now that you have a sound understanding of the business it’s time to get creative and produce some designs. It’s important to just let your ideas flow and come up with as many designs as you can.

Step 3: Prepare some more official concepts

Once you’ve brainstormed a selection of designs it’s now time to pull together your favourite concepts and develop these even further. It’s important to present these concepts to the client and obtain feedback, which is paramount for further design improvement.

Step 4: Make suitable amendments

Once you have obtained some feedback you can implement any iterations provided by the client. You may have to mix and match aspects of different designs or even come up with something brand new altogether. Sometimes this stage of the process can take more time to get the desired outcome, but other times it can be quicker if the designer is properly equipped at the start of the process.

Step 5: Prepare final designs

Now that you’ve taken all the feedback on board and made any necessary adjustments, you can prepare the final designs to be showcased.

After this, the client may give your final designs the go-ahead and if that is the case then it’s happy days.

Now that the process has come to end all that’s left for you to do is sit back and admire your newly produced design. You can celebrate a job well one knowing you’ve executed a design that matches the client’s brief and vision.
