Every entrepreneur knows how important the role of a company or business logo is. Needless to say, a logotype represents a lot about an entrepreneur’s business endeavour and if the logotype is effective, it can draw good business for the entrepreneur. On the other hand, if it’s haphazardly done, then you can be sure that the logotype will not attract as much business as an entrepreneur would most probably want. Hence, a great design is definitely a must.
Here you can find easy to follow tips on how to come up with a good design ideas. (Note: Also, here are some design ideas & inspirations for you to consider)
First off, never underestimate the power of reading and observing
This means that if you’re in search of a good logo ideas, then you must observe the things around you and read as much literature, books, magazines or even websites and blogs that you can lay your hands on. Observe how the other logos of other companies look like. Are they simple? Are they a little bit complicated? Did their logotype pique your curiosity? What about books? Have you read or come across good logo ideas through design books? Which ideas were interesting for you? Now if you don’t have time to actually read a book, why not scan at least several blogs made by professional graphic designers? There are lots of information available online and a lot of designers have their own blogs whereby they generously share tips, tricks, ideas and expertise.
By the way, never ever commit the mistake of merely copying an existing design. Apart from the fact that you may be sued by the company that owns the logotype (trademark or patent issues, among others), being a copycat really does not help your company at all. The buying public usually does not appreciate mere second rate copycats.
Anyway, moving on.
Second logotype design idea tip would be this – practice, practice, practice
Just because you’re not a professional logo designer does not mean that you do not have the license to at least doodle or try your hand in designing your own logo. You need not produce a perfect design right away. Just try to draw or sketch what’s on your mind and a professional can eventually clean that up for you and make it all nice and dandy. What’s good about trying your luck in creating some designs on your own is that the very idea will come from you. After all, nothing beats when the ideas come from the creator themselves. So since you’re the entrepreneur and since it’s your business that will use such a logo, why not put your own ideas to it and see how it goes? If the logotype draws good attention, then well and good. There will be no other person who gets to receive the much deserved pat on the back but you!
Third tip – why don’t you infuse words into your design?
You can try a simple exercise for ideas. Throw together two seemingly unrelated words and see if you can jumble them up and come up with a pretty neat concept. From that concept, you can come up with a logo that pretty much represents it! Let’s face it – some people might really be convinced that they suck at drawing and sketching big time but these very same people might actually be great in conjuring up words and coming up with concepts out of those words! Well, what if you’re one of those types of people? Just give it a try!
The fourth tip we can share is to simply study other designers’ work
Now make sure that you understood that correctly. We said “study” and definitely not copy. How do you study? Just take a moment and look around you. Can you see at least 10 logos around you? What do you think about these logos? How do you think the designers of those logos come up with that type of drawing? From a few minutes of just observing and studying other logo designers’ work, you could most probably learn a lot. You might even gather enough inspiration to immediately start and think of a good logotype idea for your business. Just make sure that you always highlight creativity and originality and you’re well on your way to crafting a nice logotype!
