5 Things You Need to Consider When Redesigning Your Logo

Is your current logo and branding out of sync with the times? Everyone should take the time to freshen up their image every now and again. You need some inspiration, you have ideas, but bringing all the elements together ends up leaving you with more worry than excitement. All you need to do is take a step back, make a coffee, and contemplate the following notions and you’ll be well on your way to establishing a solid redesigned logo.

1.  Why Am I Redesigning?

You have to ask yourself why you want to redesign in the first place. Maybe the direction of your business has changed? Or maybe your logo just looks old and worn-out next to the competition and you need to just dust off the cobwebs. Whatever you reason is, be clear on what is driving your desire for change.

2.  Assess Your Values and Mission

You want your logo to scream what you and your business represents. What message do you want your logo to portray? What does your company stand for? This self-analysis approach will give you some valuable insight into what direction your redesigns should take you. Be true yourself and your brand and let your creativity follow suit.

3.  Analyse Your Current Logo

I mean don’t get me wrong, your current logo may have some pretty cool components. For example, you might like that certain typography or colour scheme that is already prevalent in your logo design. When it comes to logo redesign it doesn’t have to be drastic – you can just fine tune certain aspects to get an overall better design.

4.  Competition

It’s important to understand what your top competitors are doing. You need a logo that is unique to you and you don’t want to run the risk of mimicking your competitors too closely. However, by taking inspiration from successful logo designs and coming up with something completely unique to you, you could well be on you way to a winner.

5.  Scalability

Sure your logo might look impressive on that large print but will it look as good on a business card? Consider the scalability of your design, and please do us all a favour and keep it simple. If you are able to portray your brand in as few components as possible with as little unnecessary noise as possible you will be well on your way with an effective design. Look at some the below logos and you can see why they are effective:
